Providing the Perfect Finish

Our design consultation will combine our ideas to determine the perfect design for your work of art. Or, leave it up to the quilter’s design judgement.

Think about these questions before our meeting:

• How will the quilt be used? Is it for yourself or someone else?

• What kind of designs do you like and what do you want to avoid? 

• Do you like dense quilting or more open? 

• What type of batting do you like? Is this a bed quilt or a wall hanging?  

Jan has been sewing and quilting all her life and longarm quilting since 2018. Jan has completed a course of study for APQS Longarm Certification for Fons and Porter. 

Jan’s quilting is hand-guided, creating a free-flowing, artistic style using pantograph designs and free-motion.

• It is of utmost importance that your quilt top be properly prepared for longarm quilting. Additional charges may be added if extra preparation is needed at the time of quilting.

• The three layers of your quilt will be loaded on the quilting frame independent of each other. Please do not pin or baste them together!

• Be sure your quilt top is clean and free of pet hair and loose threads to prevent damage to the machine or show through the finished quilt. Seams should be well-pressed.

• Fullness and puckers pieced in the quilt top or borders cannot always be quilted out. Properly sewing the borders to your top will ensure a finished product that will lay flat and not have puckered or wavy borders. Search the internet or contact me for instructions.

• Be sure all seams and stiches are secure. If your quilt does not have a border, stay-stich around the edge of the quilt to prevent the seams from separating and the edge from stretching. 

• If there is a definite top end of your quilt, please mark it as such with a pinned note. 

• You may provide your own batting. It should measure at least 8 inches wider and longer than the quilt top.       (Continued on other side.)

• Backing should be at least 8” wider and longer than the quilt top. For example, if your quilt is 70”x90”, the backing should be at least 78”x98”. Be sure your backing is square and if there is a specific top or bottom, please mark with a pinned note. Do not use sheets for backing.

• If you are piecing the backing, use a ½” seam without selvages. Horizontal seams are preferred. Selvages can be left on the outside edges as this provides a straight, firm edge. 

• Do not apply any embellishments such as beads or ribbons until after the quilt is finished.

• Pricing is based on the size of your quilt and depends on the design, density of stitching, complexity of the design and custom work requested. 

• Additional fees may apply for thread batting and other services. 

• Minimum charge: $40

Includes all-over meander and pantographs.

For example, an all over design in the center area of the quilt, with custom designed borders.
